Good News
What is this Good News?
It all started when God created a beautiful world and made humans in his image, so that we were like him. He put us in this world with everything we could ever need and life was good... until we decided we didn't want to live with God anymore. We wanted to decide what was good and evil for ourselves, to be our own gods. To achieve this, we severed our ties with God. As God was the one who gave us life, being away from him meant that we would be cut off from the source of true life, love, peace and purpose--eventually bringing us to death.
But the Good News is that God still loves us despite the fact that we cut him off, so much that he sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to our world to save us from eternal separation. Jesus experienced a human life and resisted temptation. He loved the outcast, healed the sick, and shared this message: that those who believe in him will not perish but have eternal life with him. Then he was crucified by the people he came to save even though he did nothing wrong. In doing so, he substituted himself for us, suffering the judgement and death that we deserved. This happened on the cross (ca. 30-33 C.E.), known as Good Friday. On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead, went to be with God and left us with the Holy Spirit, who lives in those who believe in Jesus. Taking this to heart, those who believe in him can have resilience amidst trial, finding themselves being renewed as they grow in their personal relationship with Christ. This is us--and this can also be you!

"And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us."
